Natural Dyeing on Silk

I tagged along with my daughter on her spring break when I found out she was visiting her brothers. After visiting with my kids a bit, I left them to do their thing and I did mine ;-) My thing involved taking a class at Make Workshop. I follow them on Instagram and receive their newsletter, so it was great to finally visit their Brooklyn location.

The workshop was all about natural bundle dyeing on silk. The teacher also described it as “abstract impressionist art with natural dyes” which was a freeing way to approaching the class. We were encouraged to just play with the available ingredients.

Here are the four pieces I made. It’ll be interesting to see how the colors last. I enjoyed chatting with the other workshop attendees. So much so that I didn’t take many pictures or make notes of what natural ingredients were used in which piece. I guess I will have to just make another batch, paying more attention next time around.
