Friday Finish: Log Cabin Graduation Quilt
We are back from dropping off my daughter (and her quilt) at college so I guess that means we are officially empty nesters now. That reality hasn't set in yet though I am sure it will soon.
Dorm room which needs a bit more decorating
My daughter seems happy with her new quilt, new dorm room, and new roommates! I hope her happiness continues when classes begin next week.
Previewing the quilt on her brother's bed at home
Ally's quilt is XL twin size as most college dorms provide that size bed. Of course, halfway through the quilt making process we learned her bed is a standard twin. Better the quilt is larger than smaller, I guess. Pictured above is her quilt on a standard twin bed in our house.
Her quilt came in handy while staying at the hotel
This inspiration for my daughter's quilt came from this quilt on Instagram found while searching #logcabinquilts. I had not seen a log cabin quilt in this style before. I used scrappy low volumes for the light strips and scrappy greens (school color) for the darks. A turquoise center was used for the centers as it is my favorite color.
As I mentioned before, I quilted the words "love" throughout the quilt and the phrase "she believed she could so she did" using Aurifil #2600 50wt.

- Log cabin blocks; 2.5" center, 1.5" strips finish at 8"
- Scrappy fabrics for the top; Kaffe wideback fabric for the back; Carolyn Friedlander for the binding
