Friday Finish: Quilt Irma

During Hurricane Irma (well maybe I should say before and after Irma), I finished a graduation quilt top and made a mini scrap vortex for my puppy Loki. If you follow me on Instagram, you know that my family was extremely fortunate! I appreciate those who reached out to check on us and my thoughts are with those still waiting for electricity to return and those needing to rebuild.

My sewing projects were quite appropriate for the storm in my opinion. These Rain Rain Go Away fabric strips kept catching my eye during the quilt assembly.

Before cleaning up our yard debris, I took a quick picture of the quilt flimsy in our backyard. A friend pointed out that my quilt top was a variation of the split rail fence pattern and pictured in front of our split tree.

As a leaders enders project I added blocks to my scrap vortex quilt; also appropriate for a hurricane with high winds, don't you think? I decided to make a kennel bed with a large chunk of the scrappy vortex progress following the suggested guidelines of a 12"x18" size.

Now my puppy isn't that large and you can see how small this pad is on top of his crate. I ended up using this as a mat for his food and water bowls on our camping trip. And yes, the irony (and timing) of our camping trip is not lost on me!
